Manchester by the Sea (2016)

The Oscar movies are starting to appear in my mailbox. Woohoo.

This a drama with a capital 'D'. You can tell it's a big drama because nothing is funny. Everything is low key lit. Casey Affleck is tasked with raising his nephew when his brother dies from congestive heart failure. What could be happier. Casey spends the movie dealing with how to raise his teen nephew and dealing with going back to the city that causes him such pain.

Because it feels so bleak, it never strikes me as authentic. It's all one note: depression. You also spend the majority of the first half of the film creeping up on the dark secret in Affleck's past.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
