Alien (1978)
#1
Even without sound on a tiny aer lingus flight screen, this film is still amazing. No cgi. The only place it feels slightly dated is the monitors which are all old skool vector graphics, but even that works on some level, adding to the claustrophobia of the Nostromo. The design and pacing of the film, that atmosphere, and all the actors, it all still delivers. Without sound, Ridley's acheivement of his vision is even more pronounced. What a masterpiece.

In an Aer Lingus, nobody can hear you scream...

Need to revisit this some day.  A masterpiece of promotion, and then it delivered.  What a rarity.

I watched part of Aliens too, also without sound. That wasn't nearly as good, but still entertaining.

Of the sequels, I like Alien Resurrection; the director brings a little of his City of Lost Children feel to it. For some reason it never is on TV.
