The Barber of Seville, Santa Cruz Symphony, Santa Cruz Civic 11/5/16
#1
Honestly, I didn't know this opera beyond Rabbit of Seville, but after having been in Sevilla last year, this was irresistible (Idle & Cleese was announced after we already had these tix).

'Teas a packed house and SC Symphony brought it. Staged informally, it retained its humor across centuries and languages, a classic count courts gal farce with conniving schemes and absurdity. It's largely satire of the opera form, extremely demanding of its singers with ridiculous scales and rap-cast lyrics. Quite a treat. We were all surprised on how much it exceeded our expectations (4th row center seats helped). When the Prado was mentioned, we all reminisced. And we could all see it play out in the streets of Seville. So delightful!
