Ah today's dj driven edm. It's so adhd.
The show featired one of my favs, Major lazer, plus 6 or so other djs. Sold out but the lawn was empty because everyone pressed down into the bowl. There it was packed way too tight. But it was a warm lovely night with a spectacular sunset over the city and the golden gate. The Greek remains one of my favorite venues.
For rock med, it was a night of puking scantily clad girls. There was a gate rush which caused some injuries and an arrest for domestic abuse, a gal beating down her guy for doing 10 quick shots rendering himself unable to drive. I was given a radio that didn't work, which was an excuse to pose all night.
Most of the djs did little for me. I can hardly keep up with the speed with which they drop their tracks. The audience can, singing back lyrics and responding appropriately. It makes me feel old not to be in tune with some of it. I'm happy when I can catch the references. A lot of it was hip hop based, and I'm just not hip to hip hop.
I did enjoy major lazer a lot. He had great dancers and a high energy performance. I love how he moves from dancehall to edm to pop tunes so effortlessly. I will endeavor to see him whenever he comes through. His shows are very different than his recordings.
If you've not been to an edm yet, they really are a lot like the ads - scantily clad youths bouncing to the bass drops and taking selfies.
