This sucked. And it was long. I was especially disappointed because I liked Memento, and I like Christian Bale (I loved American Psycho and even liked Reign of Fire).
I was willing to buy the setup but it took so long to unfold. And the idea that you could destroy a single city economically was ridiculous. And the idea that destroying a single city would bring down a civilization was also ridiculous. Maybe I'm asking too much, or being too critical of comic book ideas.
I also found it to be too much of a typical Hollywood action film, with a lot of things being destroyed for no good reason. Instead of destroying the monorail and a big chunk of the city, why didn't he just blow up the device when he had the chance? Not only that, but why did he not kill Liam Neeson in Tibet when he had just blown up a whole building full of people? It made no sense.
I guess part of the problem is the genre itself. Everyone knows how it will end, so if getting there is not interesting enough then the whole thing fails. And just throwing in a bunch of action didn't do it.
