The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck (1939)
#1
I haven't actually read this novel. In fact, I don't think I've ever read any Steinbeck novel. But I'm going to review it anyway -- because I can.

Because. I. Can.

This is a great novel. I mean, it must be. It was written by Steinbeck. And he's a helluva writer. So I've been told. There was even a movie made about it, titled, The Grapes of Wrath. I've never seen the movie either, but it must've been really good, because it starred Henry Fonda, and it's always showing at these retro theaters.

So, anyway, a family very talented at football fields a team and enters the Dust Bowl, but they get their asses kicked and flee to California in disgrace. They get pulled over by a traffic cop for having way too many people in their jalopy, and without seatbelts! All of them end up in jail, where they live in constant fear of anal rape.

This was the most depressing book I've never read.
I'm nobody's pony.

Are you sure your not reviewing the movie you haven't seen?

Did I mention the fact I went to the Bakersfield pickers camp where Steinbeck did his research for Grapes? That's right. My life rocks.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit
