Yakuza Demon
#1
Ah, melodrama, thy name is Miike, Takashi Miike.

I thought it was going to be some cool Japanese horror flick or at least some twisted Miike gangster flick. But, no. It was a straight ahead gangster flick.

Except there wasn't a lot of gangster stuff going on. Most of the big shootouts went by really fast, then it was back to talking about what the gang should do. And in a lot of the shots, especially in the head gangster's office, the actors had to lean forward to get in shot. Their dialogue would come on in the subtitles, so you knew they were there, but you never really saw them.

It was a lot of unrequited love between the Yakuza Demon and his boss's ex-wife. Since it was the ex-wife, you would think it would be okay to make a move, but no.

Just remember, Being a Great Yakuza gang isn't about the number of members in the Yakuza gang. There are only two members in the Muto branch in the Date family.

I'm going to go rent Zebraman.

So...? Was it a crummy movie? This Yakuza Demon?
Just curious. Still trying to grok Miike. But that's probably 20 or 30 of his flicks away (I'm up to 4).

I just loaned my copy of Zebraman to a friend. Hope she likes it.
Oh, and I took advantage of a Christmas-Day sale at Asian Cult Cinema to order a few more "items." Nothing any of you would be interested in. Just a bunch of extreme sicko stuff.

Including 2 by Miike.

See? I'm working on the grok...
