netflix finally kicked in with a couple of films to actually watch.
Fracture was the Queen's choice because they had a stenograph machine in one of the shots. Anthony Hopkins plays the rich guy trying to get away with murder. Ryan Gosling is the ADA who's going to stop him. What should be an open and shut case, Hopkins is found on the scene with dead body and gun in his hand, goes horribly awry, when the arresting detective is also the man sleeping with Hopkins wife. And the murder weapon can't be found. It's all a big puzzle piece by Hopkins who is a man who loves to build intricate puzzles. Gosling has a 99.7 success rate in getting convictions. But his mind is on getting the big new job in the private sector and screws up the case or falls into the trap that Hopkins sets for him.
All told, it was pretty mediocre. Hopkins was good playing Hopkins but it was a lot of scenery chewing.
Joseph Gordon-Levit, of Third Rock from the Sun, plays Chris Pratt, a golden boy who's goldneness ends when he drives into a combine tractor. Two of his passengers die and Chris loses most of his frontal lobe. Now, he struggles with recognizing things and getting through the day. Nefarious characters take advantage of his disabilities and the fact he works in the bank.
From the reviews, I thought this was going to be the best movie ever. Sadly, no. It was good. Better than a lot of the dreck out there, but not the superb film I was expecting. I winced a lot as people took advantae of Chris's weakness, but the movie was pretty straight forward without a lot plot twists to distract me.
