I thought I already review this, but I don't see it.

It's pretty good, but I've only seen the first half of this Martin Scorcese documentary about Bob Dylan. And the main thing I brought away from the documentary is that Dylan is a big fat liar. It's great to hear him on the radio talking about his childhood in Gallup, New Mexico minutes after it was explained that he grew up in Hibert, Minnesota. Ah, the poetry.

I also like the intercuts of his late sixties period when he switched to electric and he was getting booed off the stage in England. And he was singing some of his most famous songs. I also found out where Springsteen gets all his schtick.

He's not a 'big fat liar'. He's a prankster bard. There's a significant difference.

I enjoyed NDH for the archival footage. I have the CD of that historic electric conversion show and it's still disputed if he got booed off the stage or not. My favorite part is when some heckler shouts something incomprehensible and Dylan replies 'I don't beleive you'. So who you gonna beleive?

Springsteen isn't the only one who lifts from Dylan. There are generations of musicians that are his bastard stepchildren. As a writer myself, I've often been inspired to lift a phrase or two from Bob.

Big fat liar Prankster Bard. Same result

I knew about Dylan on a very superficial level. I didn't really care. He was just that mumbling singer. But according to my friend Lyndell (Die hard dylan Fan)(He has mix tapes of just the different versions of tangled up in blue) the mumbling is part of his artistry, much like impressionistic painters. I say if you are going to tell me a story, it would be nice to understand the words you are using.

That said, I really like the documentary and gave me a clearer picture of Mr. Dylan. I was shocked to actually see him in the media, thinking of how much he shuns the media. And why didn't we talk more about Edie Sedgwick?
