The Matriarch of the Madrigal family is given magic powers in the form of a candle that never goes out. All the descendants have different magic power and even the house is magical. Except for Mirabella. The house did not give her any powers on her special day. But now the magic seems to be running out and it's up to magic less Mirabella to find out why. And there are show tunes along the way provided by the ever present Lin-Manuel Miranda.
It's kind of an affirmation movie as each of the cousins and relatives learn about themselves and their powers as Mirabella questions them about why the house is running out of magic. John Leguizamo plays cousin Bruno who is shunned because he can see the future and his prophecies aren't that good. He also has one of the best songs in the movie.
It's kind of fun. It's kind of awkwardly put together. Maybe stilted is a better word. It's not as good as some recent Disney offerings which is probably why it appeared so quickly on Disney+
No sword fights. But there is a lot of coffee consumption.

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
