This has a very strong trailer, which I would highly recommend watching to anyone.
Probably should stop right there. But I won't.
The movie itself comes across lifeless, clichéd, rampant with artist, agent, and gallery stereotypes. There's some high-powered actors here, mind you, but they seem to struggle to deliver their scenes, as if belatedly realizing what they had stepped in.
I now see that Dan Gilroy also directed Nightcrawler, which I also disliked. That also starred Jake Gyllenhaal, but the real problem is the lack of sympathetic characters. Dan Gilroy is now on my "directors to avoid" list.
P.S. The film is R-rated and contains nudity, which might be grounds for watching it -- if you really like guy butts.
