The story takes place almost entirely in a health spa for the elderly, and for that reason alone I had serious misgivings about watching it. Nonetheless, I stuck with it. While it is suitably weird (listed on 366weirdmovies.com), I did not particularly enjoy it.
Shelley Duvall and Sissy Spacek do give great freaky early performances. Despite their considerable beauty, they are both cringeworthy, and you find yourself backing away from them. I mean, wow, talk about messed up people. Janice Rule plays the third woman, who is equally messed up but stays more in the background.
While I don’t recommend it, be aware that Ebert loved it (calling it the best film of 1977) and that in some circles it has attained cult status. It really is very trippy, but not in a pleasant way, and I felt Altman was manipulating the characters too much, far beyond what they would naturally do.

I'm nobody's pony.
