Shaolin vs. Evil Dead (2004)
#1
There are two points you should know before reading this review:
1. There was no Flying Five Finger One Armed Eight Pole Shaolin Exploding Death Touch Thursday feature on El Rey this week. There was sort of a Halloween focus on Dawn 'til Dusk. Dm went into withdrawal DT. Instead, he wound up watching Breakin (absolutely hilarious to watch now) and Goldfinger (still a classic) which he might review here if you're all really really nice or if DM just has nothing better to do.
2. Evil Dead is a sacred film for DM & LB. It is where they first bonded while on the timeclock for MQ6. It was one of the greatest MQ6 films of all. LB & DM saw it so many times, catching it on our breaks in bits and pieces any chance we got. ED too, if memory serves. Of course, this film has nothing to do with Evil Dead.

In honor of Halloween, I revisited this flick on Hulu+. It stars the ever bald Gordon Liu and Fan Suiwan (Ricky from Ricky O) and was released between Kill Bill 1 & 2 in some weird hopes of coattailing on Liu's appearance in part 1. It's sort of a classic Kung Fu horror comedy. Liu is the white monk with the scribbley bindi tattoo who claims to be Buddhist. Fan is his exorcist Kung Fu brother, the black Daoist (not sure how Buddhist & Daoist would be under the same master, but we'll overlook it). Fan has a hot disciple. Gordon has two goofy disciples, a nerd who falls for the hot disciple of Fan, and an irritating kid who reminiscent of Short Round of Indiana Jones. At one point, the kid poops out a demon kid who is hairless, covered in whipped cream, and even more irritating. There's also a zombie dwarf. Lots of zombies, hopping ghosts and some gratuitous maggot eating. Very poorly dubbed. Mediocre CGI, some kind of clever. Lots of flying about and yellow paper talismans. Sword fights. No bollywood dances or cute dogs. And no ending. The film ends suddenly with previews of Part 2 in the end credits.

Part 2 looks better and I honestly can't remember if I've seen that. I remember seeing this, sort of. I forgot that it didn't end and the pooping out the hairless whipped cream covered irritating kid. I must say, having some memory loss has it's advantages as it makes old things fresh again.
