GLOW: Fire @ downtown Santa Cruz 10/18/14
#1
This was a benefit for the Museum of Art and History (MAH) downtown. A band of burners got together and did some performances, shooting off flamethrowers, and displaying some fire-based art and BRC art cars (one really nice dragon car). There was some really mediocre EDM DJ droppin beats and they closed off a street. Samba Stilt Circus performed, which only has two people on stilts. The rest was a Carnival-style drum corp with fire dancers. The fire-hoopers and poi-ball players were good. There was a great juggler but he sort of fell to the wayside. There were two decent staff players and a lot of mediocre fire dancers including a double nunchuk guy that spent way too long warming up considering that he only did some basic twirls. The finale was Combustabubbles, which was this dude with a huge machine he built that was supposed to emit flammable bubbles, but it just drooled fuel all over. Ultimately, it was another case of burners being way too full of themselves as 'arteeests' as it was a family show and there wasn't all that much entertainment. But it was packed and MAH made a lot of money. And it was fun to watch some burner dudes light up downtown with some big ass flamethrowers.

T plays with hoop and poi and was inspired so it made it worthwhile.
