HP Quotient: 1
I think the reason horror movies decline in popularity is because you know all the tropes they are going to use to scare you. They pump up the sound at inopportune times. Shadows move in the background behind the hero. Creepy toys come to life. Doors that you couldn't open before are suddenly wide open. You get the picture.
The Woman in Black uses all these and more. Harry Potter plays Arthur Kipps a lawyer dealing with his own calamity. He is sent off by his boss in a last ditch effort to save his job to the remote wilds of England to clear up an estate. The estate is a the end of causeway you can only access at low tide. No one in the town is happy to see Kipps. They want him to leave. They don't want to take him to the house. They don't want Kipp near their children. You would think Kipp would get the message but no. Even when he starts to see the titular woman in black.
Thinks ramp up when kids start to die in town. Kipp continues to explore the house and the cemetery that is on the house grounds. He finds clues about the woman in black. Toys come to life in the house. A helpful dog warns him of evil spirits. A crazy neighbor lady warns him.
See? It's got all the buttons ready.
the film isn't bad. It's very predictable. HP does a fine job. The scenery is spooky. I did get the shiveries one time. I don't like toys that move and this film had a lot of that.
No sword fights.
