You know it's going to be a good film when they say the title of the film during the course of the movie. ("Who is this Fist of Legend"?)
Poor tQ has to be out of town when I'm watching all these great films.
I'm going back to to fill in the gaps of some of missing martial arts oeuvre. I learned from the special bonus features this was a remake or an homage to Fist of Fury. Who knew? Probably everyone.
Lots of action. Lots of fights. You know how to have lots of fights in a film? Open a martial arts school and have everybody come in and challenge you. You'll get bonus fights if the Sifu dies under sketchy circumstances and you also get to seek revenge. Fights. Fights. Fights. And put things to break in the scenes that are really close to being unnecessary. My favorite was the stack of buckets at the edge of the salle. Maybe they used them to carry water to strengthen their arms. All I know is if the combatants are fighting around some object, eventually a body part will be crushed into that object. Not that I'm against that sort of thing.
My favorite character was Fuimo Funakoshi, the Japanese martials master who seemed to be doing his best Toshiro Mifune impression. He should get his own movie.
