Side Jobs by Jim Butcher
#1
How can there not be a forum about the Harry Dresden novels? It's probably here somewhere I just don't feel like hunting.

In "Changes", Dresden is shot by an assassin in the final chapter leaving his standing up in the air. However, the next book is called "Ghost Story" so I don't think Dresden is quite dead yet. You don't kill a main character twelve books into the series.

While Dresden fans wait, Jim Butcher has put out a short story collection of all his Dresden stories called "Side Jobs". They span the arc of Harry's career including the very first story Butcher ever wrote about Dresden. I skipped it after a few paragraphs.

The rest of the stories are good. They fill in some holes in the Dresden canon. It gives Butcher a chance to showcase other characters from the series like Dresden's half brother who is s a succubus and Murphy, his liaison to the police force.

The book ends with a brand new novella that takes place in the days right after Dresden's been shot and how people are dealing with their loss. It's got giant frog people and valkyries and the head of the Chicago crime syndicate. That's just how these things work out in Butcher's stories.

If you've never read a Dresden story, these would be a good introduction. They do stand alone from the series and everyone is given introductions so you won't feel too lost.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit

There is a Dresden thread somewhere in here. If y'all haven't read them, they are really good fun. They start a little too wise-cracky but within a couple of books they start getting tighter and darker, with the humor being used to fend off depression and rage.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.
