Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
#1
I haven't read anything else of hers, and picked this up at the library sale because it was post-apocalyptic. Actually that's not quite true, it bounces back and forth in time.

Atwood is a very good writer and it was a page-turner with fleshed-out characters. I highly recommend it.

Apparently some were put off by the ambiguous ending but I liked that. Incidentally, the ending is clarified in her subsequent book Year of the Flood, which tells much the same story from several other points of view. It was good, but not as good.
