S.F. Symphony @ Davies 6/15/8
#1
This will be our last symphony for a spell. T is bored with it. So are we to some degree. This time, it was a selection titled Rhythm and Groove! (emphasis on the !) Edwin Outwater conducting. When we walked in, there was an ample percussion set up, which got me hoping, but it was really all about beats, not rhythm, some very basic time signature stuff. And they played that damn Rodeo by Copland again. I hate that piece. When will the symphony learn that one person working the register and getting the snacks isn't enough for a family concert. At the outrageous prices they charge ($4 for a cookie) they could pay for another worker in five minutes. And who was that chump behind us in row three, waving his hand like he was conducting, but completely out of time?

The one stand out piece was Sibelius Valse triste - a sumptuous piece about a woman on her deathbed having some last dances with some ghosts. I've always liked Sibelius, and this piece was full of melancholy and bittersweetness.
