Gone Baby Gone - scapino - 12-31-2007

Say what you will about Ben Afleck, the guy is not above making fun of himself; Kevin Smith thinks the world of him (and that is praise from a pretty cool source); and his directorial debut is a hell of a good film.
Of course he starts with good material, the novel by Dennis Lehane who also penned Mystic River and many of the scripts for The Wire (the best TV show currently being produced).
The movie has excellant casting, especially the extras that fill out every scene.
The moral dilemas that the main character encounters don't sit as simple or predictable plot twists, but as true questions of what is right or good or best for a world that is not black and white but ever grey.
There are a lot of films that I watch and enjoy like popcorn. They are quickly consumed but leave very little behind. This was a film that was very enjoyable to watch, but equally fun to ponder later while walking the dog at 11:30 at night.
