War is bad, but you don't really see it from this picture.
Paul Verhoeven directs this picture about a Jewish woman hiding out in occupied Holland during the end of World War 2. And since it is Verhoever, everyone's favorite Porn Director turned big time Hollywood director, at some point there will be a shot of a peroxide vagina. If you are keeping score there were two penis shots to the one vagina shot.
According to my father, Black Book was the best film all year. As usual, I disagree with my father. The film could have used a really good edit. There was some really interesting scenes, but they were followed by lots of interminable scenes.
The tension was supposed to derive from the fact there was a mole in the Holland Underground who kept tipping off the Nazis to the Underground plans. But no one really made it a priority to find out the bad guy in their midst. They just kept going on raids and adventures and getting killed.
There were a lot of fortuitous encounters in the film which always drive me mad. (How fortunate we have a drawer full of stamps the Nazi Obergruppenfuhrer is collecting)
I guess the question I have to answer for myself is whether it was better to take a break from football to watch this or not?
