Cerebus the Aardvark - El Dingo - 11-18-2005

I'm re-reading this graphic novel for the fourth time.

The writing and artwork are as brilliant as 'Watchmen' and 'Dark Knight'.

It's done in black and white which is perfect for a story that concentrates more on story and character development than 'Biff-Bang-Pow'.

The main character, Cerebus, is a fierce warrior aardvark (earth-pig born) in a medeival setting. He wanders the land getting involved in political disputes, petty crime and theocratic uprisings. Along the way he meets characters that are hilarious parodies of Elric, Red Sonja, Batman, The Tick and Groucho Marx.

Cerebus only wants to fight and drink, but he is clever enough to outwit those who would use his might for personal gain.

There are seven volumes to the series, but only the first 5 are really good. Around volume 6 the author became somewhat tiresome and preachy.

El Dingo says check 'em out!
