RIP Sly Stone - thatguy - 06-09-2025 One of the greats... --tg RE: RIP Sly Stone - Drunk Monk - 06-09-2025 Wherever he laid his hat was his home… I never got a chance to see him RE: RIP Sly Stone - Drunk Monk - 06-10-2025 Heard some nice radio tributes today. One on KPFA while driving this afternoon, another this morning, I think on KZSC. The DJs on the morning show pondered why Sly's sound changed and slowed up in his later years. They though he was mellowing out but I'm guessing it was the drugs. RE: RIP Sly Stone - King Bob - 06-11-2025 Sadly, he only had a few good years of making music, then it was more about drugs. (Sort of like Marvin Gaye.) His Greatest Hits album (Did we all have that one?) came out in 1970. Then the Family Stone drifted away and no one wanted to book him for shows because he was so erratic. Miles Davis wanted to work with him - Davis said he "almost wore out those first two or three records" and listened to Sly a lot during the Bitches Brew sessions - but when he went to see Sly, there were guns and coke everywhere, so he didn't stay. Yes, some great music, but sadly too many drugs.
