Kalki 2898AD - Drunk Monk - 08-23-2024

Trailer 3

There were moments within the nearly 3 hour run time that were visionary and epic like the trailer implies. It has a phenomenal cast - Bachchan, Prabhas, Padukone, Patani - some real Bollywood A listers. And the story has its moments. It opens evoking the Mahabharata - the main characters are the last incarnations of several of those warriors (and I was pressed to recall their legends). The main villain was awesome. All the light-up space weapons were fun. Double laser urumi? Bring that on.

But overall, it reminded me of Zach Snyder too much with its artistic sensibilities and self indulgence. That being said, I enjoyed this more than Rebel Moon. It poached a lot of concepts from other films, not just Snyder.

And of course, it doesn’t end. 3 freakin hours and it’s a ‘to be continued.’ It’s part 1 of a franchise. not sure if I’m down for part 2. Maybe…

Not D00M recommended.
