Poor Things - King Bob - 03-23-2024 Christina wanted to watch this. I was hesitant because I feared it would be bad. I was correct. It looks great - set design and costume design are really top notch - but the cinematography is annoying with way too much fish eye lens. And like Maestro, it's part black and white, and part color. I thought I might enjoy the many shots of Emma Stone mostly naked, but the sex scenes are super un-sexy. If I were in my 20s I think I might have liked it since it's strange, but now I just found it silly, and parts were boring. It could have been shorter. And there are some really bad accents by Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo. Emma Stone's performance was certainly not worthy of an Oscar, but that's how those awards go. I don't recommend this at all. After it was over I regretted not turning it off earlier. RE: Poor Things - Greg - 03-24-2024 Like forbidden fruit, I still need to check it out. RE: Poor Things - Drunk Monk - 03-24-2024 Likewise. Maybe we can have a hearty debate about it here. However I’m in no rush… RE: Poor Things - thatguy - 03-24-2024 My take: Imagine instead of being "The Middle of the Film", this was the entire film: --tg RE: Poor Things - Drunk Monk - 11-24-2024 I didn’t find it nearly as objectionable as KB. It was very Yorgos. Everything I’ve seen has been odd, but totally Oscar fodder now obvs, and Cannes too. I find his work satirical of art film in a way that the international awards shows don’t quite get so they see it as art, but to me it’s caricature and parody. And wow, that was a lot of Emma sex. I was warned but was still a tad shocked that she went for so much. Then again, she’s a muse of Yorgos so I get it. Ultimately I found it funny in a black humor way. Glad to have watched it just to know what the buzz was about. Seen on Hulu. |
