Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) - Drunk Monk - 03-15-2024 The Star Wars chronological viewing continues E1 = http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomForum/showthread.php?tid=1833&pid=70965#pid70965 Surprised we don't have a thread on this EII already. This film is too long. It's like a film of filler between punk kid Anakin and Vader. It might've been good if its 2.5 hours were edited down to 1.5 hours like a normal film. The good - Natalie is radiant. She's so gorgeous in this that it's obvious now that she would go on to a notable career. I like the sonic charges - cool effect. I liked the Uncle Owen & Aunt Beru connection, although it was a bit weird how unremorseful Cliegg Lars is about Shmi's death. Christopher Lee is great in anything he does and he makes a weak role work. Same with Samuel L. Jackson. The Obi-wan Anakin relationship works at the beginning. And Jango Fett sets up Boba Fett (the show) well. The bad - The Anakin Padme romance in Naboo (aka Olive Garden world) hardly works. Natalie sells it because she can act. Hayden just glowers, which was surely how he was directed to act. I've made my peace with him in the Kenobi series. The Obi-wan Anakin relationship plays out without sufficient jealously on Anakin's part beyond an angry line or two. CGI Yoda sucks. Jar Jar...nuf said. The weird - when Anakin tells Padme that he thinks tyranny would be acceptable, it hits differently now than it did before 45. The satisfying - The Bad Batch makes more sense. I had forgotten the details of how Kamino played into it all. RE: Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) - Drunk Monk - 03-15-2024 What irks me the most is that Anakin finds Shmi and then she dies just minutes after he unties her. Sure you could say she let go after she saw him that one last time but the timing is too convenient. |
