I win. Roberta the sister comes in second (Although her call might be more interesting in the long run.)
On Saturday, the phone rang. The man on the other end of the phone said he was from Istanbul. All I could think was Nigerian email fraud. Instead of the immediate disconnect. Turns out, it was a man representing the company that sold me my turkish carpet when I was in Turkey. He was here in Los Angeles demonstrating his wares to designers. He didn't want to have to pay the freight to ship them back so he called former customers and wanted to know if they, or I, wanted an in home demonstration? From past experiences I knew better than to get within twenty miles of their siren call. They are relentless. It's why I own the carpets I own. I said no.
Roberta came in second because she got a call from the FBI. They needed to drop by and serve her a subpoena.

You can't leave the Roberta/Feds thread hanging like that! C'mon! Subpoena for what? Just make something up, fer chrissakes, but don't leave it like that!

The FBI need to talk to her in relation to her former husband. She hasn't really spoken to him much since she escaped from his clutches twelve years ago. He was an accountant during their marriage. And now it seems the FBI is really interested in talking to him and to people who know him. I don't know how much Roberta can help since she'd rather stick needles in her eyes than talk to him, but the FBI and the Government have their ways.
He's a little bit hard to track down now as he's in Africa. Roberta has been able to contact him by email but she's still in the dark about what's going on. Nobody wants to tell her.
They do want her to go to New York and testify. That's the gist of the subpoena. But for a teacher there couldn't be a worse time for her to leave school. School ends in two weeks. She kept asking the FBI guys if she really had to go.

June 24 Update - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 06-24-2007
The former husband is in jail in Ghana (That's where his current girlfriend is from) awaiting extradition to the United States on charges of kidnapping and extortion.
Djiminy (The ex) called Roberta a few days ago asking for advice on lawyers.
