Just read "Maltese Falcon" and "The Continental Op". Very fun, lotsa down and dirty San Francisco, and some good lines. Cynical? Oh, yes...
Tomorrow, it is either Turtledove's WW 1 (if the South had won the American Civil War) or Neal Stephenson's Quicksilver.
