Inventing David Geffen (2012) - Greg - 08-19-2021 Inventing David Geffen was a documentary from the American Masters series on PBS made in 2012. So, it's not quite as new as I thought. But it was new to me. It does paint a pretty complete picture of Geffen's rise from William Morris mailroom clerk to billionaire Hollywood mogul. I knew bits of this story but not enough. I did learn a lot about his life and was gobsmacked to learn he dated Cher for over 18 months. I think he made a lot enemies as well as friends. He was fiercely loyal to his friends and not a good enemy to have. I think they downplayed the terrible enemy part of his character but it was broached. It's a good documentary if you want to get a good behind the scenes look at the music and motion picture businesses. RE: Inventing David Geffen (2012) - King Bob - 10-25-2021 Sounds like this shows him in a better light than the book Hotel California where he comes off as a total asshole. Good at business, but an asshole. RE: Inventing David Geffen (2012) - Greg - 10-25-2021 No, you get the sense he's an asshole in the movie, if you look carefully. RE: Inventing David Geffen (2012) - Drunk Monk - 10-25-2021 Did he like Cowboy Bebop? RE: Inventing David Geffen (2012) - Greg - 10-25-2021 Stop it. 'Thank you sir, may I have another?' is not your safety word. Now you gotta beg for it... RE: Inventing David Geffen (2012) - Greg - 10-25-2021 I've never liked you. RE: Inventing David Geffen (2012) - Drunk Monk - 10-25-2021 Nope. That wasn't it either. I think there's a boot here for you to lick. ![]() |
