Blood Sugar Fun - Greg - 06-15-2021

I'm starting my own thread for reports on my blood sugar. I seem to be going through a phase. Especially since I just hit 54 for my blood sugar about ninety minutes after having snack. There is no way it should be that low after eating but here we are. It's like I'm at war with my own body.

If I eat too much, my blood sugar sky rockets. If I don't eat enough, it drops. Because of my obesity, my pancreas doesn't want to make insulin. I take medicine to help my pancreas make insulin. Too much insulin production and my blood sugar drops. Not enough insulin and my blood sugar sky rockets. It's quite the game. Quite the balance. The obvious solution is to lose weight through exercise and diet. I am currently finding that difficult.

I'm writing this during the sugar crash. I've got the tremors (not the movie) and my shirt is soaked with sweat. I would categorize this as the opposite of enjoyable.

How coincidental. I was just thinking about launching a thread about blood sugar crashes after having one recently. I think you and I are the only diabetically-challenged DOOMers so far, amirite?

That's weird about your blood numbers. I've been horribly lax about my self pricking. I should really get back on that.

I just crossed the critical 7.0 A1C which allowed me to get my covid shot early but my doc says I'm looking okay still. Still just doing diet and exercise.

Do you have onset symptoms? My neuropathy gets tingly in my hands and lips. My balance goes askew. I get really ornery (not horny - nice try spellcheck). I get stupid, like more stupid than usual, as if anyone would even notice but me.

I get dizzy and I sweat a lot, although I am cool to the touch. My lab tech noticed this when I went in for my A1C check. My shirt was drenched in sweat but my hands were really cool. She gave me a juice box to help out.

My last A1C was 7.5 down from 11

That's awesome about your A1C drop! Congrats. I've been on a slow but steady rise.

I've cut carbs - including beer, white rice, white flour and potatoes notably - and I never had much of a sweet tooth so sweets weren't a problem. Haven't had a soda in years, although I confess I've indulged in a few flavored Pelligrinos. I need to work out more.

I haven't noted sweating issues ... yet.

Maybe we need a separate “Medical” or “Health (or lack thereof)” thread that can contain this thread the “I’m more broken...” and the inevitable other threads that will come on?

RE: Blood Sugar Fun - Drunk Monk - 06-16-2021

We can have unique threads for each shared malady like eyesight, joint replacement, addiction recovery, memory loss, hearing (anyone else got tinnitus?), hallucinations, arthritis, STDs, whatevs...

RE: Blood Sugar Fun - Greg - 06-16-2021

We could just have the "The Olds" forum and group these things under it.

"Beats the alternative"

Really mild tinnitus until April, then a big jump.

It's ear-cancer, isn't it?

RE: Blood Sugar Fun - Greg - 06-16-2021

Totally ear cancer.

Knew it! Now I'm a-gonna die. Tragic.

RE: Blood Sugar Fun - Greg - 06-16-2021

Wait! Did you have a plan to not die? Do tell.

RE: Blood Sugar Fun - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 06-16-2021

Dude, we're all immortal...until we aren't.

RE: Blood Sugar Fun - Greg - 06-22-2021

It must be after 10am. My blood sugar is once again plummeting. 69!

RE: Blood Sugar Fun - Greg - 06-24-2021

June 24, 2021. 10:15 72!

I think I'm taking too many meds in the morning.

Does your doc have any input?
