Lego Star Wars Holiday Special - Drunk Monk - 11-18-2020

This was a lot in the same vein as my fav Lego Star Wars, Bombad Bounty. It sets up a story which allows the protags to bounce through numerous scenes throughout the franchise (all the way to Mando even). The villains are particularly funny. But only Rose and Lando are voiced by the original actors (I think). The actor that does Rey misses horribly. And the whole Life Day thing is still goofy. I had to explain the original to Tara & Bri.

Lightsaber fights. DOOM recommended because it's not very long.

Star Wars and Holiday Special is a combination I tend to avoid.

It's really a 45 min ad for Star Wars toys.

But it's has its moments. It's a good ad.

The Emperor is hilarious. His best line (and I'm paraphrasing) 'Enough talky talk. More fighty fight!' The scenes with him, Darth and Ben are quite funny.

RE: Lego Star Wars Holiday Special - Drunk Monk - 11-23-2020

For Greg. He is one with the special. Life Day is mentioned in The Mandalorian so it's canon.

RE: Lego Star Wars Holiday Special - Drunk Monk - 11-24-2020

Wow. That was even worse than I remembered. So bad. So very bad. I forgot that it was originally a 2 hour special.

However, at the 50 min mark, there's an animated interlude that introduced Boba Fett. It's interesting, especially in light of the Mandalorian now. It gives a hint about the development of Boba.

It's also interesting to see how the wookie house is akin to the ewok houses. And I forgot that Starship was in this.

I was 13 when Star Wars came out. I remember it vividly. I'm sure we all do. Then a year later, the Holiday Special came out. We were so excited for it. And it was bad then. We thought it was done. Then Empire came out a few years later and redeemed everything. We forgot the Holiday Special. I saw it again years later - a friend had a VHS videotape - my warped memory makes me think it might've been ED even who had it. He was the master of obscure video back then - that must have been the mid 80s or so and I haven't seen it since.

Yeppers.

RE: Lego Star Wars Holiday Special - Drunk Monk - 11-26-2020

Hamill is way up there with George Takei as one of my fav political social media commentators.

RE: Lego Star Wars Holiday Special - Greg - 11-26-2020

I saw that one as well..... It's especially funny to watch him respond to requests for birthday shout-outs.

Daisy Ridgley is listed in the credits.

This was painful. It's like going on a roller coaster and you keep thinking it's going to go over the top and you'll get into this great episode. But it never crests. It just teases and then wallows back into banality. There were some microseconds of fun but that's about it. One of those microseconds was the travel through all the different episodes.

Really? It sure didn't sound like her.

Wait...Ridgley?

You need to watch the original again. I posted it about for your viewing pleasure.

You've seen Bombad Bounty, right? I'm sure I've posted that here before somewhere. If not, here it is again. It's the best of Lego Star Wars.

I did feel that the new Holiday Special lifted their Emperor parody from Robot Chicken.

RE: Lego Star Wars Holiday Special - Greg - 11-29-2020

I must have misread it. It's not Daisy. But Anthony Daniels does C-3PO.

RE: Lego Star Wars Holiday Special - Drunk Monk - 11-29-2020

Good for Anthony. He's one of the last originals still standing now alongside Mark and Harrison.

RE: Lego Star Wars Holiday Special - thatguy - 12-01-2020

IIRC, Harvey Korman played 3 different characters in TSWHS. Did he get paid 3x? Too bad nobody made any residuals from syndication.
