My Man Godfrey (1936) - Drunk Monk - 11-07-2020

William Powell is a hobo, living in a shanty near the dump. Carole Lombard is a rich daughter of a psycho rich family. The rich are on a scavenger hunt to find a 'forgotten man'. Carole finds William - Godfrey. She's smitten and hires him as the new butler. But her family is dysfunctional. And Godfrey is more than meets the eye. Totally incredulous but a classic. Amusing.

No sword fights. Not DOOM recommended.

Cheese and rice! Are you just going through my curriculum from Film History? You might as well watch Great Ball of Fire next.

Maybe I will.

I'm on a bit of a classics binge for sure. 2020 has been the year that wasn't for new films so I'm digging at the old ones.

Sadly, the version we watched off Amazon Prime was colorized and it looked awful.

Sullivan's Travels, goddammit.

Alright already. Just added Sullivan's Travels to the Netflix queue...

Just one FYI. Sullivan's Travels is of it's time. And that time liked the Steppin Fetchit character in their comedies. Unfortunately there is a sequence in the film where this occurs. It's the one bit in the film that really drags it down.

I'm a big William Powell fan. Like this one a lot.
