The Departed - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 10-15-2006 It's based on the Hong Kong film "Infernal Affairs" I never saw the HK version so that meant nothing to me. I wish they could have figured out where they wanted to go with the film before they started. The first quarter of the film was awesome. Really well crafted. I wanted to no these people. But then they started throwing in the artificial story motivators to keep the plot flowing. First it was find the microprocessors because they are going to be used by terrorists. Then it was coke. Then it was find the rat. Then it was just chase your own tail time. All the actors did really good jobs. And I hate to say this, Mark Wahlberg probably did the best. Unfortunately, they lost him in the second half of the film. Matt Damon did a really good job playing Matt Damon. Leonardo DiCaprio got to try out his Boston accent. I think they had a really good starting off point, they just didn't know how to bring it to a conclusion. If you go see the film walk out after Leonardo starts whining about how tough it is keeping his life together. The DVD - Drunk Monk - 04-09-2007 Any film that lets Nicholson ham it up in a caricature role is ok by me. Both DM and Mrs. Dm found The Departed on DVD very entertaining, that is until our freakin' DVD player crashed, depriving us of the finale. Damn cheap DVD player. It gave the film added tension, since we didn't know whether we would get to the end or not. We got through all the Nicholson scenes so I was somewhat satisfied at that. I gotta see Infernal Affairs now. Finally saw the end - Drunk Monk - 04-17-2007 A lot happens at the end. I'm glad we got our sputtering DVD player to get through it. Our DVD player can't play new DVDs. It plays old ones ok, only a few hiccups. But new ones choke it out. It usually lets us get about an hour into it, then it starts to skip and play, skip and play, teasing us. Then it dies completely at a critical moment. Is Stacy controlling the Media? - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 04-18-2007 A little sabotage here and there and pretty soon, you'll be giving up on that TV thing. I'm just saying. Or you could blow a hundred bucks and just get a new DVD player. I could even send you my old one. The upside? It doesn't run on Kerosene. - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 04-23-2007 You need kerosene? |
