Green Lantern (2011) - Drunk Monk - 08-08-2020

I've never understood Green Lantern. His powers always seemed too undefined, too powerful. Given my recent dive into the DCAMU, I figured I'd give this a pass despite the poor reviews, in hopes of some clarity on the character. But it didn't help. Sometimes bad reviews need to be heeded.

This film fails in every way a superhero movie could fail. Over the top CGI effects but lacking cohesive artistry, very predictable storyline, flat characters, dumb overall plot, and mostly Ryan, who I disdain. He's smarmy like usual, which works for Deadpool, but not GL. It's an early Blake Lively as the damsel, and while she's gorgeous, her character is so cardboard that it fails. The film fails to find a tone and fails to engage.

There is a swordfight as part of GL's training. It's CGI silliness. Not DOOM recommended at all.

WTH is up with Green Lantern anyway?

I saw this in the theater or maybe when it just hit DVD. I'm surprised I didn't review it. Or maybe it is just hiding somewhere in shame.

I thought it was bad, just not as bad as reviews made it out to be at the time.

It hasn’t held up well. The glut of superhero movies over the last few years detracts from this even more. It makes it feel really hackneyed. And Rudd annoys me. He got to snog both Brie & Morena playing smart ass superheroes. That annoys me even more.

Rudd? Maybe you mean Reynolds.

Right. Sorry. Hadn't had my morning tea yet. Posted that while still in bed and pondering if it was really worth it to bother getting up.

Then I had to pee.
