Gemini Man (2019) - Drunk Monk - 06-17-2020 Been meaning to check this out because it's Ang Lee. Will Smith fights himself. Yeah, yeah, Captain Kirk did that all the time. Will plays Deadshot, only he's not called that because this ain't no DC film. He's an ace sniper assassin with 72 kills. And it gives him bad dreams. Riiiiight. Anyway, y'all know from the trailer that he has to fight his clone so that's no spoiler. Mary Winstead plays a serviceable noob agent who gets caught up in it all. Clive Owen is the baddie (just saw him in Ophelia as the King http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomForum/showthread.php?tid=5507 but he plays his villains all the same so it's not noteworthy). It's a lot of Will. I'm okay with Will but this is a lot. I will say that younger clone Will cgi is very convincing. There's an awesome chase scene in the beginning. It goes to motorcycles and it's fresh. Most of the fights are fire fights at night. The hand-to-hand is also at night which conceals mediocre choreo. There's a good tracer bullet scene near the end when they are attacked by a horde of special agents in tactical armor (which doesn't do any good at all). Then there's a final fight - a hulking special forces agent in tactical armor (including motorcycle helmet even though he didn't come in on a bike) goes for a big hand-to-hand scene. He's essentially a modern ninja, all in black, doing all kinds of crazy aerial kicks, sweeps and combos. Hold the phone. I recognize those moves. It's my old castmate. It's the one and only Marko Zaror. Sadly, he's only a body double because when he's unmasked, it's kinda like when Vader was unmasked. Nevertheless, that was fun. No sword fights. Some knifes and lotza guns. Not particularly DOOM recommended unless you can take a lot of Will. There's some colorful Ang Lee settings, but nothing super extraordinary, which is odd to say because there's a big scene in an ossuary. RE: Gemini Man (2019) - Greg - 07-19-2020 What a terrible film. It was like some bad family therapy book had a baby with one of Ludlum books and this mess was the result. So much talking about father's and sons. And the relationship with agent was completely unbelievable. They cheated a lot with CGI characters in the stunt scenes which was really noticeable. Not a surprise in the bunch including the end. Wil plays Will and it's time for him to be some other character. The most enjoyable part was seeing Budapest. I recognized a lot of the sites and had been to them. That's about where my enjoyment peaked. God this was terrible. Yes, I hate fun. RE: Gemini Man (2019) - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 07-19-2020 Now, now, there’s a difference between “truly awful” (=unwatchably bad/insulting to intelligence) like “Prometheus” and formulaic actioners like The Old Guard, which was predictable and enjoyable. |
