The Iron Dragon's Daughter by Michael Swanwick - Greg - 04-09-2020

Ever finish a book and ask yourself what was the point of that whole novel? That's the way I felt about IDD. It was really well written. It's an industrial age fairy tale land which was very interesting. It starts out in a Dickens work house setting and progresses to a modern computer age society, but the magic still runs cheek to jowl with science. It was quite the interweaving.

But I didn't really like the main character, Jane, who is navigating this world. She's a changeling and all that entails. She's not very likable and is very selfish and I kept asking myself why I was bothering with this tale. It was the milieu. It was fascinating. There are glimpses of our world as well, along the way.

So, I don't. The book is kind of with me now. I'm reading it's sequel which involves completely different characters but a different protagonist.

We shall see.
