Sketches of Frank Gehry - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 08-28-2006 I did this one for the HK. And because the Disney Center is awesome. And because I needed to know how they went from napkin sripple to massive metal artifact. Where did those blueprints come from? I was only partially satisfied. There was too much talk about Frank Gehry the man and not enough talk about what Gehry has done. Yes I know it's a biography. I don't think I really needed to know that Gehry has been in therapy for the last thirty five years. I was more interested in his creative process and there was gobs of that but I could still have had more. It was interesting to see some of how his ideas ended up in 3-d models in the computer. The computer pen they used to measure the models for the computer was the coolest. I needed more talk about his buildings. They covered Bilbao. They talked about the German furniture museum. The talked a little bit about Disney Hall. They showed some of the houses he built in his early days. I was thinking it would take a lot of guts to live in a Gehry house. If you like Gehry, I'd reccommend it. It's probably a hard film to watch if you care nothing for architecture or the architect. And I do want to kill the one guy who didn't like Gehry in the film. His mannerisms were like nails on a chalk board too me. |
