The Birds (1963) - Drunk Monk - 10-31-2018

A Halloween flick. I totally forgot how this began and that Susan Pleshette & Veronica Cartwright was in this. It’s such an odd plot, beginning with such painfully stilted dialog, so many cigarettes and the perfectly glamorous Tippi in boating across Bodega Bay alone in heels & furs. Once the birds come, I remember the scenes almost shot for shot. It’s a dumb plot really. It shouldn’t work. The birds are never explained or even resolved. It’s like Hitchcock had some scenes in his head and just threw a movie around them. But those scenes are untouchable, classic Hitchcock, and redeems it all. My dvd had the script and sketches for an alternate ending, one that would’ve worked a little better to my way of thinking, not that it answers any dangling questions but it gives more gruesomeness to the drive out.
