Proper Records, in the UK, does great box sets of old music. Copyright runs out after 50 years there, so it's all old country, blues and jazz - so far anyway. Plus the box is cardboard as are the CD sleeves, so it doesn't take up that much shelf space, as well as using less plastic.
I picked up the Glenn Miller box and am very impressed. (Mock if you wish; he was a great arranger.) The sound quality is good (easily comparable to the much touted US remaster I used to have) and it included a long booklet with an essay, session info and photos. Very nice.
AND retail is about $25 for a four CD set, often cheaper on eBay. They also do single intro discs for about $10.
