Pyeong Chang Olyympics 2018 - Greg - 02-11-2018 I am ingesting these in all their forms. I watch all the sports with maybe the exception being the ice skating. If it is live and on my TV, I'm watching it. I've gone into avoidance mode on most of my devices so the outcome isn't ruined. Although last night while I was waiting for the Finals of Slopestyle, which could have been live but was delayed so they could show the Team Ice Skating competition (See? Ice Skating), I received a push notification telling me who won. Curse you, Push Notifications. I must say I was completely underwhelmed by the opening ceremony. With the exception of the thousands of lighted drones who flew in formation to create the Olympic Rings. I need to know how that was done. Fortunately I recorded the event so I could fast forward through most of it. Part of my dislike for it is the NBC announcers describing what I'm seeing. I see some kids walk onto the ice and then Katie Couric says "And now some kids, walking onto the ice) Yesterday, I enjoyed the Biathalon. I think the short track speed skating is insane. I also watched the mixed curling. Curling has got to be the bowling version of sports where it is a lot more enjoyable if you happen to be drinking. And, yes, I'm a Nationalist. I wish more Americans were on my TV winning. I'm sure the PPFY must be loving the hell out of this. Since it is two weeks of sports without balls. RE: Pyeong Chang Olyympics 2018 - The Queen - 02-11-2018 Olympics, Shmolympics. Pitchers and catchers report in less than a week and I’ll be watching baseball again soon. Go Cubs!!! RE: Pyeong Chang Olyympics 2018 - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 02-11-2018 No blade, no glory. We took Gold in team in Bonn (fourth straight this year, unprecedented for Americans) and Silver in individual. Winter Olympics? Feh. OK, Biathlon is pretty cool, but you didn't hear that from me. Biathlon is the only winter sport that is arguably martial. But it’s the most mediocre spectator sport of all the arguably martials. Haven’t figured out how to watch via any of our streaming services without adding an extra charge. Bummed but not heartbroken. biathlon rules - Greg - 02-12-2018 I just like the fact that if you miss the target, you get to do an extra lap. You can just feel these exhausted athletes heart's break when the red flashes to signal they have missed a target. Yesterday, was slope style. They should have cancelled the event when all the snow boarders were getting blown off the mountain by wind gusts. It was totally unfair. Lots of curling and skating on the TV since the wind up in the mountains was cancelling a lot of the events. Can't you watch the events on the NBC app. You can all see the events in VR, which I am not doing. That means I'd have to download the app, which I'm not bothering with at this point. Is it free? I haven't even looked. Frankly I'm swamped at work so I only had time to watch ST: DISCO & Homeland this weekend. The rest of the weekend was devoted to hiking, Kung Fu, eating & resting. This week is gonna be a beyotch. ![]() I confess that I did watch the VR on YouTube which is all distorted because I don't have a VR viewmaster. Maybe I'll try talk Tara into bringing hers home because she's coming home for prez day weekend. Honestly, the only reason I'd watch the winter games is for the shadenfreude. I delight in watching others freeze when I'm relatively warm. I just want to see the vantablack building, but I don't think it's the same if not in person. Sailor Moon for the win - Greg - 02-13-2018 I would think DM would be watching the Olympics just so he could follow Ms. Medvedeva in the women's figure skating. RE: Pyeong Chang Olyympics 2018 - Drunk Monk - 02-13-2018 I watched a little last night - slalom, biathlon - slalom could be improved with land mines. bialthlon could be improved with land mines and bazookas, especially if those bazookas were as tricked out as the current biathlon bb rifles. It didn't hold my attention though and I shifted over to the latest ep of The Mick and then some Star Trek Voyager reruns. ![]() RE: Pyeong Chang Olyympics 2018 - Greg - 02-13-2018 What the hell? Half-pipe was on last night. That was worth watching. Little tiny women flying 40 feet into the air. The US won two medals. I don't remember slalom being on but Combined was on. And then Shaun White did the preliminaries in half-pipe. It was pretty much a throw down to the rest of the field. As in 'what you got?' Eye catching! - Greg - 02-13-2018 They also have some lovely artwork at the Olympics. RE: Pyeong Chang Olyympics 2018 - cranefly - 02-13-2018 I didn't know Sailor Moon could skate! Quote:Greg said:Are those the judges? Shouldn't they be holding up scorecards? Oh. Oh dear... Don't tell me that's how they show the scores... Well, that doesn't look so cold. Fake news. RE: Pyeong Chang Olyympics 2018 - Drunk Monk - 02-18-2018 Caught the men’s figure skating at my mom’s while waiting to pick up T from SJC. I don’t care for adding the lyrics - too distracting - and i wanted to stick a knife in my ear every time the commentator said ‘leave points on the table’ - or take a shot. That would’ve worked too. Saw a little skeleton at the bar at the restaurant where we had S’s birthday dinner. Now that is an insane sport - face first - daaaaaaamn. How do they even practice for that? And now the Russians may lose a medal for doping - in curling?!? WTH!?! I hate to generalize but Russians are such cheaters. ![]() RE: Pyeong Chang Olyympics 2018 - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 02-18-2018 Not generalizing. It is/was/has been a culture of kleptomancy and corruption for over 100 years. I’m happy to say that many of the younger Russians and former Soviets that I have met that relocated here are very nice, normal people. There are a shit-ton of Rooskies in my sport. RE: Pyeong Chang Olyympics 2018 - Drunk Monk - 02-20-2018 Toth’s fig to AC/DC was cool with the lyrics. Weir’s comments pissed me off tho. Music snob. |
