Hamilton - Drunk Monk - 01-30-2018

@ San Diego Civic Theater 1/28/18

Brilliant! Made me proud of America again, something I haven’t felt in way too long. It was an excuse to drop in on Tara that we knew she couldn’t refuse and we were all blown away. It’s everything they say and more - funny, tragic, revolutionary, smart, political, relevant, catchy, imaginative, a masterpiece. Stacy read the book, a monstrous tome, and felt the liberties taken were justifiable, so much so she’s now fantasizing about seeing it again from the front seats (which are like $800+ now). I avoided any prep and was completely engaged by its wit and staging. It’s dense - hip hop is fast and can get off 5x the lyrics in the same time as typical showtunes. Turns out I really knew nothing about Hamilton beyond the duel. This may well have been the best broadway show I’ve seen.

What is Hamilton?

(I've been listening to the Jefferson Hamilton rap battle for quite some time. I also like King George's love song)

Those rap battles were fantastic and the King was hilarious.

I need to dial more into Miranda.  I'm following his twitter feed now.

Well he is doing the Kingkiller Chronicles based on the Pat Rothfuss book. He also did the music for Moana.

Yeah, I'm catching up.  I knew about Moana.

And you missed that he's going to play Burt in the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns.

Yep.

Orpheum 12/19/19

It’s even better the second time.

RE: Hamilton - Drunk Monk - 12-20-2019

So we spent a night in SF, at the St Regis no less. Stacy said she got tix to the nutcracker but it was a prank. She really got tix to Hamilton. She told us on the way up.

Man I love the Orpheum. Such a spectacular theater. I always get flashbacks to twirling to Jerry there - one truly ecstatic moment when I ‘got’ twirling, the whole lysergic 360 awareness trip, all in one little puddle.

But Hamilton rocks. What an amazing tour de force on so many levels. Always a delight to be in the room where it happens.

RE: Hamilton - Drunk Monk - 12-20-2019

the cast member who plays samuel seamus liked my gram post.

Cool

RE: Hamilton - Greg - 12-21-2019

Gram famous.

RE: Hamilton - King Bob - 12-21-2019

DM - Miranda may be talented, but avoid the Mary Poppins update. It's crap.

RE: Hamilton - Drunk Monk - 12-21-2019

too late

i really hope miranda doesn't try to become a movie star.  hd should stick with broadway, where he is truly king.

RE: Hamilton - Greg - 12-21-2019

In the heights is coming.

RE: Hamilton - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 05-18-2020

What the fuck, dudes — not one goddam song. A whole lotta shootin’ & fightin’, though.I give it 8/10 on the Bourne Scale for Euro Spy Thrillers.
