Justice League - Drunk Monk - 11-14-2017 Batman forgets his bat sword. Sorry, that's sort of a spoiler but it seems really appropriate to DOOM. The comparison with Thor: Ragnarok is inevitable as JL is just two weeks later and several films behind the Avengers. D.C. is consistanly darker and attempts to make some political comments, hints really, until giving over to comic book mayhem and spectacle. This poaches so much from the Marvel formula, right down to end credit scenes. It's entertaining - the comic banter and super hero repartee is amusing and the new characters are funny. I can't fault Wonder Woman, she's really working for me, and I'm okay with Cavill & Affleck (both work better when juxtaposed with the others). T:R will likely due better because it's more colorful, quicker and mindless. Not that JL is much more intelligent, but it make sure some comments on poverty, race, climate change, & class, but very fleetingly. Hope is a key element, which the alt-right can twist into a Keurig/Obama/privilege protest if they want to skip this film. Personally I like D.C. better, but Thor is a more entertaining film overall. it was fun to see them so close together and be the King of Nerd Buddy's End. WTF! - cranefly - 11-15-2017 WTF, DM. I thought you were the DOOMer most adamantly opposed to superhero movies, and suddenly you're the vanguard leading the way into the theaters with your trident raised high and an undecipherable letter on your chest. What the heck is up with you? And what's your secret power...? RE: Justice League - Greg - 11-15-2017 DM's secret power: Auto-Correct! After sleeping on it, JL is way to derivative of Marvel to garner respect. It's not as colorful and fluffy, but it tries to be and in doing so, compromises it's gothic iconic power. Aside from bringing together the league, the plot is vacuous and the villains are a hackneyed cg throwback. But it'll still do well at the box office and satisfy some fans. The Snyder WW butt shots got a little too gratuitous. Hopefully they will return to form with aquaman and there will be a ww cameo. RE: Justice League - Greg - 11-15-2017 Your super power is getting to screeners before the rest of us. Although not too jealous about this one. I have no faith in Zach Snyder's ability to direct. Yeah, Zach kinda kills it with Wonder Woman's excessive flying flèche attacks. The bulk of the fight choreography is based on those. You'd think he'd be over it after Sucker Punch. That'll be in our official KFM review, just so I can say 'flèche' and sound sword smart. It's a provost thing. Comics - Drunk Monk - 11-16-2017 I should really qualify my comic-derived reviews. I set the bar very low for this genre. As long as it keeps me relatively amused, I can overlook a lot of silliness. It's escapist and if I forget my worries for a few minutes, well, I'm not looking for depth. Colorful explosions and funny quips work here, and I generally forget details soon after, which is why I leave these notes here. Nah, that's not entirely true. I really post here to assert myself as the DOOM nerd king buddy's end. It's only good for a few days. So I gotta milk it. Multiple Choice Question - cranefly - 11-16-2017 What do you get when a Snyder Wonder Woman butt shot makes contact with a nerd king buddy's end? A) A catastrophic implosion. B) A whole lot of suspense. C) 4:20 D) The Human Centipede 4 RE: Justice League - Greg - 11-16-2017 I hate it when DM milks his buddy in front of us. All of the above, plus nachos. With extra sour cream. Mmmmm sour cream. The funny thing is that Wonder Woman has armor-like hot pants. Gal's version isn't as cleavage-y as Lynda (how could it be?) but SPOILER flash gets the best view END SPOILER (11-16-2017, 06:58 AM)Greg Wrote: I hate it when DM milks his buddy in front of us. got cookies? ![]() No Justice for us - Greg - 04-13-2018 Finally. Finally. Finally. I'm glad I've finally seen this so I can put the experience behind me. What a flat film with characters I didn't give a damn about. Except for maybe the Flash. He seems to be the only in the whole film that doesn't act like he's doing the graveyard shift down at the box making factory. So much origin story. So much talking. Blah blah blah. The bad guy has to get the things so he can do the thing which will make the world end. And the Justice League has to band together zzzzzzzzzzz. Lots of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Can we all chip in to get these guys another acting note? I expected it be a bit better with Whedon taking over the acting chores, but I didn't see it. Unless he was in charge of the Flash dialogue. But still, not enough. And does WW only have the one facial expression now. You know, the furrowed brow with her lips half open signifying deep thought or angst or anguish? It works for so many scenes. It seems like the plot of this owes a lot to rumors for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War but instead of stones we have to go find boxes. Just dull. RE: Justice League - King Bob - 04-13-2018 Can we just give up on the damn back stories? That's been dragging down a lot of movies for a long time. It was innovative, once, but that was a long time ago. And since super hero stories are like fairy tales, they should just skip it like those do. Or they give it a sentence or two. RE: Justice League - Drunk Monk - 04-13-2018 But but...I wanna hear Batman’s & Spider-Man’s creation story one more time... Actually they skipped it with afflecks BM in BvS. And that was a good call, as good as teasing ww.
