Midnight, Texas series - The Queen - 08-26-2017

The hubby and I started watching the Midnight, Texas series by Charlaine Harris (of Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood fame). It seemed a little familiar, but I wasn't sure. Checked my iPad and sure enough, I had downloaded the first book in the series, "Midnight Crossroad" a whilte back and had only read part of it. Must've gotten a case of "Squirrel!" or "Shiny!" and forgotten it. So, re-read it, and then read the two follow-up books: "Day Shift" and "Night Shift."  The TV series is loosely based on the characters and stories in all three of these books, and the TV show made some interesting casting choices that make it more interesting than the books.  All of them focus on a (genuine) psychic who relocates to a tiny little town where there are only a few people living and everyone's a bit abnormal. In addition to the psychic, you've got a witch, and energy vampire, a fallen angel, a weretiger... and I should probably stop describing characters there because that's as far as the TV show has gotten and I'd hate to spoil it for the hubby...  In the second and third books, there were a couple of crossover characters from her other universes -- Barry the Bellboy from the Sookie Stackhouse books, and the detective/former maid from the Shakespeare, Arkansas books.

The books are your basic fun, junk food fiction - great when you need to give your jaw and eyes a break from the world/current events.
