Headshot - Drunk Monk - 03-05-2017 I'm making a new DOOM rule - all member must see an Iko Uwais film (Star Wars VII does NOT count). Headshot is Iko's latest and the ultravi master is back, although this one isn't as strong as his previous work. But it's still Iko. Some complex long single shot sequences, this time with swirling spin-around the fight scene camera work, and maximum sanguinosity. And a threadbare plot so Greg will protest toooo much. Headshot is a martial take on torture porn. The sets are dark, dingy and dungeoness. There is gratuitous blood letting, bone breaking, knife slashing, flesh chopping and ass kicking. I don't think I've seen a film with so many slo-mo blood spit takes, climaxing all the fights like porn cum shots. There's a lot of dumb like why can't they shoot him at point blank? How do criminals like these exist under the radar? Why ain't Iko dead yet? But who cares (aside from greg)? It's all about the action. There's some pseudo artsy shots, some nice drone shots too, but it's really all about the spin-around the fight scene shots because those are so technically tough. Not for everyone, but definitely for DOOM. RE: Headshot - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 03-05-2017 What are his best films? He only has a few actually - Drunk Monk - 03-05-2017 Personally I liked Merantau the best because it brought more Indonesian culture in but The RAID is his real breakout film. It's just one long fight scene really, a perfect showcase for Iko's choreographic mastery and sense of pure ultravi. The sequel to the Raid is more caricature, and so a bit more entertaining in a DOOMesque way, but go for the first Raid first (not that you really needn't to see part 1 to understand part 2). I think it's netflixable. RE: Headshot - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 03-05-2017 Oh! I saw the last few minutes of The Raid II. The fights were amazing. It's fight porn - Drunk Monk - 03-05-2017 Remember when porn had plots? Like movie long plots? Now it's just the action. Iko movies are kind of like that. He really only has these four - Merantau, Raid, Raid 2, and now Headshot. Actually given that, Headshot is his weakest one so far. But still, if you like ultravi (and don't we all?) it's Iko, which is a heckuva lot better than another Seagal flick. He has a cameo in Keanu's Man of Tai Chi but it's such a waste that I made me angry at Keanu again. Keanu films are like Star Trek movies; they alternate between entertaining and suckage. And if you blink, you miss his cameo in Star Wars VII. RE: Headshot - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 09-11-2017 Watched "Headshot" last night. Too much plot, but the fights...!!! Holy SHIT! Going to see if I can find Raid or Raid II Iko! - Drunk Monk - 09-12-2017 See 1 first because 2 picks up right after 1. |
