The Security Project @ Don Quixote's in Felton - thatguy - 05-25-2016

A musician friend that moved from SLV up into the Gold Country 20 years ago mentioned on FB that he was coming in to town to see these guys. He's a prog-rock fan, but he never comes down this way, so if he was trekking out to see them, I thought it might be worth checking out.

The Security Project are: Jerry Marotta  (of Peter Gabriel), Drums & Percussion, Backing Vocals; Trey Gunn (of King Crimson and Robert Fripp Band), Warr Guitar, Backing Vocals; Brian Cummins (of Sky Cries Mary, Shriekback), Lead Vocals; Michael Cozzi, Guitars Backing Vocals; David Jameson, Keyboards, Eigenharp.

I would call them a Gabriel cover band, except that some of the members played on the original recordings and toured with Gabriel, and Trey has had to fill in the "Tony Levin" spot with Crimson and has that sound down. The singer does a pretty damn good Gabriel voice. The band was super-tight and sounded great. They played all the great songs from the first 4 Gabriel solo albums. They also did "Mercy Street" and a few songs from Genesis' "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway". Good show. No fancy Prog-stage production. Just musicians playing on stage that really loved the music. Here's a sample:

You know, ED lip synchs Gabriel pretty well.

Okay, that's a long 'only ED' tale on the level of Greg & dm's kareoke stab at Heartbreak Hotel.
