RIP David Bowie - Drunk Monk - 01-14-2016
I saw the Glass Spider tour when it came to San Jose. I thought I worked Rock Med for that, but it precedes my service to RM by a few months. Maybe I went with one of you? The weird thing is that I don't have a ticket stub for that and I'm pretty good about saving those, just for memory's sake.
See? That was before the forum. No long-term memory.
It was a great show. I'm glad that I saw him in all his glory. I think that was the only time I saw him.

He was my hero all through my adolescence. I had his poster on the wall and everything.
I hadn't been hit this hard by a death since Joey Ramone, Joe Strummer and John Belushi.

I remember that, ED. You got me more into Bowie than anyone. In fact, I was thinking of you when I heard the news, and what you might say here on DOOM.
But DOOM was down then.

My wife was crying when I woke up. I was shocked as well. I was never super into Bowie, but I remember buying Low (because I was getting into Eno) and being blown away by it. And I have to say that every time I hear Ashes to Ashes I am somewhat stunned - it doesn't sound like anything of it's own time or this time either. That is genius. And it's not his only song like that.
Plus he was just super cool, and perhaps the only rock star who truly grew old gracefully. I saw a great interview a few years ago where he said (probably not an accurate quote) "I don't matter anymore. The young eat the old. It's the way culture works."

I finally picked up "Black Star" (vinyl of course
).I poured a tall scotch, turned down the lights and braced myself for an emotional punch in the gut.
What a fucking amazing record. It's like being dragged down a dark hallway catching glimpses of misery and desperation in doorways as you pass by.
At the end you are flung through a window to land on the street below where you sit up wondering what the hell just happened.

That was a good performance by Lorde. I agree that Gaga missed it. I think she's been more interested in promoting herself than music since after the first album came out.
Haven't heard the whole album, but the song Lazarus is fantastic.

Vinyl. ED, you are too hip for DOOM.
Gaga tried to be Bowie, but she overlooked that critical factor - class. She was rushing through material, trying to do it all. Lorde was more true to herself, which was far more appropriate. I've followed both divas since they began. I saw Gaga's BGC show when she was just breaking out, caught her again at Oracle, and then a month ago at the Superbowl, where she killed it. I saw Lorde's first SF show at the Fillmore. Luv them both but for different reasons.
The Lazarus song & vid are excellent.
