P.K. - Drunk Monk - 11-16-2015 Drunk Monk Wrote: E.T. meets Brother from Another Planet in Bollywood with a little Being There tossed in. I like Aamir. He's very goofy looking, very short, and has a body built like a freight train. He's a landed alien in Delhi hoping to phone God but he keeps getting the wrong number. There's a lot of really great comments on religion, immigration and prejudice. The dance numbers are mediocre actually, which is a shame because Aamir can dance. No sword fights but there is a sword brandishing scene, at a wedding no less. Sets aren't that impressive, but the locations are stunning because, well, it's India. Anushka Sharma was really charming. It's a funny film, romantic and thoughtful with its clever religious commentary (that's one reason why it did so well in India I'm sure). I wouldn't recommend it however, unless you are into Bollywood. There are much more over-the-top films for Bollywood virgins. T watched a little of it and was engaged enough to text me this morning and ask what that film was. S only watched the silly scenes which elicited eye rolls, which was too bad as I'm sure she would have enjoyed the religious commentary. P.K. is actually a letter-rized version of the Hindu term 'tipsy' because everyone keeps asking Aamir's character 'Are you tipsy?' when he does some weird alien-misunderstanding-culture thing. |
