Tommy (1975) by Ken Russell - cranefly - 10-14-2015
A skinny and wiry Roger Daltry is master of the vacant gaze; Oliver Reed excels in the drinking scenes and bellows out his songs (to be dubbed over later by an actual singer); Eric Clapton is woodenly robotic (or robotically wooden?); Elton John has no interest in the film, but agrees to do the part if he gets to keep the shoes; Robert Powell (who played Mahler in Ken Russell’s Mahler) plays the hapless father; Jack Nicholson camps it up as the Specialist...
...and Anne-Margret and Tina Turner just totally rule.
Wonderful wanton madness.

Is this the first time you've seen this film?
If so, DOOM has been sadly negligent in your education.

Oh come now. Lady Cranefly and I went to a special screening.
The movie doesn't even come out for another week.
Hope I didn't give away too many spoilers.
P.S. Now I'm trying to track down a copy of Lisztomania. That should bring me close to closure on Ken Russell's musical extravaganzas.
