The three novels in the trilogy are "Between Summer's Longing and Winter's Cold", "Another Time, Another Life", and "Falling freely as if in a dream" Basically, they detail the life of a Police Inspector in the National Police Force of Sweden with the assassination of Prime Minister Olaf Palme as a constant source of intrigue.
Full disclosure, I only made it halfway through the third book before I couldn't take the dullness any more. From the first book, I thought they would eventually solve the Olaf Palme assassination but looking at the Wikipedia page informs us that has yet to happen.
There is a lot to not like about these books. First off they keep talking about what a great detective the lead is except for the fact they never give any evidence of this. "He can see around corners" is a constant refrain. They also say he is a real policeman what ever that means.
Summer's longing is about the suicide of a journalist where Persson deliberately gives disinformation about the killer so it's a big reveal at the end. In Another Time, they don't even get going on the plot until the book is about three-quarters done. Falling Freely does investigate the Palme assassination but I stopped caring.
I stumbled upon this author because of the Fox series Backstrom, which I enjoyed. I figured to go to the source material to find out more about him. Well the only two things they have in common is he is a police officer and his name is Backstrom. After that, two roads diverged in the wood. And in the books he is just a terrible character with none of the charm of the TV character.
I'm getting sick of Swedish detective novels.
