Kinky Boots - The Queen - 04-16-2006
Two for two the last two weeks of movie-going. This was really enjoyable; formula, but entertaining. Son inherits father's shoe factory, business is going down the tubes. Though encouraged by selfish nasty fiancee to sell the business and put all those poor factory workers out of work, son decides to save the factory by finding a new market; high-heeled boots for drag queens. See, the poor drag queens can't find a decent shoe because all the shoes they want to wear are made for girls and the weight distribution is all wrong so the heels are constantly breaking...
I have an all-new appreciation for Chiwetel Ejiofor -- whose name I didn't know before and still can't pronounce -- I just think of him as the scary bad guy in Serenity. But now that I've seen this, I'm going to have to learn how to pronounce his name. No doubt we'll be seeing more of it.
I really enjoyed one of the B stories, how they dealt with the most prominenty ignorant homophobe without dismissing or diminishing him. They did, in less than two hours and only a few scenes what it took NYPD Blue 6 or 7 years to do with Andy Sipowicz, and yet you buy it.

Too many men dressed as woman. It made me feel funny inside for all the wrong reasons. I need to talk to someone about my new found desire for red stilleto boots. Ah, glamour.
It was a good flick. And yes, I liked Chiwelti. He's building quite the reputation for variety. First he's Kiera Knighlty's blink and you'll miss him boyfriend. Then he's the coolest assasin in the Serenity movie. Now, he's a drag Queen. I'm sure he could kick Terrence Stamp's ass in either venue.
I'm sure it will be great on DVD.
